LAMBDA ZETA CHAPTER
Sigma Kappa
Chapter Information:
-
Sigma Kappa, founded in 1874 at Colby College, is built on the values of friendship, loyalty, service, and personal growth, with the motto "One Heart, One Way" embodying its commitment to integrity and purpose. The sorority encourages members to excel academically, develop leadership skills, and engage in meaningful community service, supporting causes like Alzheimer's research and the Maine Seacoast Mission.
Focused on empowering women, Sigma Kappa fosters lifelong friendships and helps members grow in all aspects of their lives. With an emphasis on character development and inclusivity, the sorority inspires women to become compassionate leaders who create lasting change in their communities and beyond.
-
Sigma Kappa is very proud to support each one of our 5 philanthropies: The Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, the Maine Seacoast Mission, and the Alzheimer's Association. Each year we host an Ultra Violet event that benefits the Sigma Kappa Foundation. The Sigma Kappa Foundation provides leadership and scholarship opportunities for collegiate members, as we as supports the other philanthropic initiatives of Sigma Kappa Sorority. In addition to hosting the Ultra Violet event, Sigma Kappa also fundraises and participates in the local Walk to End Alzheimer's. The Walk aims to raise awareness for Alzheimer's and promotes the need for a cure.
-
Sigma Kappa chapters evaluate all potential new members equally, based on the organization’s values of friendship, loyalty, personal growth, and service. A PNM’s ability to join Sigma Kappa is not influenced by their legacy or recommendation status.
Relatives of Sigma Kappa members, or "legacies," are not guaranteed membership or an invitation to any rounds during primary recruitment or continuous open bidding (COB). While initiated members are encouraged to share the Sigma Kappa experience with PNMs, it is not required to formally notify the chapter about a legacy attending their university.
